How I become college basketball fan?

I'm big NBA fan but notcollegebasketball!

How I becomecollegebasketball fan?nba street

Guess that all depends on where you're from. Who's the most local University in your area? That way catching games and showing support is easy.

How I becomecollegebasketball fan?nba news ,nba teams

I would recommend choosing a school that is close enough that you could actually attend a few games. I'm a huge fan of UCLA because I went there, but also because the team has unmatched history and is the most successful collegiate basketball program of all time.
pick a team you like and watch as many of there games as possible...then you will like some teams and hate other teams.
This is a great week to start. Go to most any sports site, print out a bracket, make a small wager with a friend or two, sit back and watch the Madness!! I guarantee you'll be a NCAA fan by the end of the weekend - it's the greatest show on Earth!
just watchcollegebasketball and you will love it

College Hoops is my absolute favorite sport. The season's only been going about 2 weeks now, but I've already lost count of how many hours I've spent watching it.

What is the best conference in college basketball?

We all know the ACC perennially brings out tournament teams every year , but the Big East and Big 10 have become as strong , and some may argue , better than the ACC. And don't forget , the national champions come from the SEC , which may not be as tough in basketball as they are in football , but have a lot of good teams in LSU , Kentucky , Alabama , and Florida.

What is the best conference incollegebasketball?nba league pass

My favorite team is Kansas, but I don't think the Big 12 is the best. Most would probably say the ACC and/or the SEC are tops, with maybe the Big Ten and the Big East in that mix as well.

But don't overlook the A-10, the MAC, or the Missouri Valley.

I say ACC then Big East following it. The ACC is pretty unarguably the top conference, then coming after it it's hard to say. I just say the Big East because I love BC

What are the chances of playing D 1 college basketball?

Well i am 14 years old and i do not think that i am going to grow alot more. I am the best player on our team and average 8 points per game out of 24 points. we have 8 players on our team. i have been to alot of camps and have been some of the best players at the camps. I live in a town of 3,000 and our town is not known for basketball. what should i do to become a better player?

What are the chances of playing D 1collegebasketball?nba warriors

D1 basketball is not an easy thing to come by my friend. My advice to you would not be to bank on growing more, but rather refine and perfect those skills that you are best at ie shooting, passing and defense. Larry Bird, I'm sure you've heard of him, came from a similar small town and made quite the name for himself. One thing he did, was every night, he made 100 jump shots before he could stop. He even brobed his Dad to force him to stay at there, by promising straight A's. If height is a problem for you, then work on your passing, man on man defense, and shooting. Focus on the skills that best suit you, work hard, and make sure you have good grades, because alot of D1 schools look to that as well. But most importantly, have a good attitude. That's very important in thecollegegame.

What are the chances of playing D 1collegebasketball?nba records ,nba teams

I also live in a small town and I'm a 16 year old Junior thats the second leading scorer in Missouri with 24 points per game, and 6 rebounds, I 'm also hoping to play D-1 and what I'm thinking about is a small D-1collegeinstead of trying to get into Duke or UNC that would be unreal Report It

your going to need to be a 3 point shooter like jj redick. D1 schools care mostly about the players being amazing athletes because they know they can mold them into players with practice. Division 2 is full of players who could be D1 but just aren't quite the athlete they want. Report It

Never give up trying. Remember that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team before trying out as a walk on at North Carolina. We all know what happened then. If he had quit trying, where would he be? Report It

well to be fair michael jordan was cut as a sophmore, and rumor has it that his coach never let anyone below a junior on the varsity team Report It

They were 1 in 10 billion for me being a white kid in an affluent suburb
move to a ball playing city. live next to a park where all the ballers go and play them. thats the best way to get better. copy their moves. shooting around on your own wont help when a mans in your face and your playing top speed. chances are youll just have to make a name for yourself since according to you nobody knows you. play travel ball and show people your skillz
1st of move somewhere with more than 3000 people or ur not gunna get noticed and then see if your the best in a town of 30,000 and if u r then go to like a YMCA and shoot evryday then get your varsity coach to get D 1 coachez to notice you

Who knows how they rank college basketball teams?

What i dont understand is that the ACC is one of the top leagues incollegebasketball. Three teams in there are ranked in the top ten most tough schedules like Boston College is 9th, but how can Duke be ranked when you have a team like Boston College who has a better record than Duke it makes no sense how Duke can be ranked and Bostoncollegeisn't even in the top 25 and also Maryland is ranked 17 who has the same record as Boston college.

Who knows how they rankcollegebasketball teams?nba salaries

done by votes from sports writers(AP) who rank their top 25 teams, if your ranked #1 you get 25 points 2nd 24, etc. The point totals are added together and the top 25 teams are in the poll. It's pretty subjective so that's why you have teams like Duke ranked as high as they are.

Who is the best college basketball player you ever saw play and why?

Curious what everybody thinks, to me it was Larry Bird at ISU. He single-handedly brought that team to the championship game undefeated. Unbelievable...

Who is the bestcollegebasketball player you ever saw play and why?nba standings

Larry Bird took a bunch of mediocre players and led them to a 33-0 record in his final year at ISU. Not many players can say that. He leftcollegethe 5th leading scorer in NCAA history.

I never saw Pistol Pete incollege(little too young), but his stats were incredible.

it has to be greg oden hes only a sophmore and he averaging those number cant wait until hes a senior he be more mature, and way better, probably the best centere int the game
Pistol Pete at LSU. His stats speak for himself. He was way ahead of his time. Check the record books he holds them all.
Bill Walton. Just dominated but without having to dominate.

Len Bias. Man it would have been fun to see him in the NBA.

And to the guy that said Greg Oden, what are you thinking? 1st he's not a soph, but a fresh, and he's not even the best freshmen this year, so how is he the best you have ever seen?
Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, Six Championships.
That's tough. I'll break it down to my top 5 (in no particular order) ... Len Bias(R.I.P.), Christian Laettner (as much as I despise Duke), Hank Gathers (R.I.P.), Larry Johnson, and "Magic" Johnson - sorry Larry Legend !!

Are there any rules in college basketball that could be changed to improve the game??

A lot of rules/guidelines are different from thecollegeto the pro game (some better, some worse.) What would you change incollegebasketball? For example, I think the shot clock should be shortened in college.

Are there any rules incollegebasketball that could be changed to improve the game??nba tickets

Though I somewhat agree with you about the length of the shot clock incollegeb-ball, I don't think that the rules committee should shorten it to the 24 second time period which is of course the NBA length. That might be a bit too short, and would take away a strategy when a less skilled team is trying to slow down an offensive power. The disparity of skill between some teams is somewhat evened out by hanging onto the ball a little longer, and makes many an otherwise lopsided game at least a little more competitive. Maybe finding a length of time between the NCAA and NBA rules would be a viable alternative.

I don't see too much wrong with the way thecollegegame is played, really, but would like to see the rules that are already in place to be enforced more consistently - and that brings me to my two pet peeves - the lack of consistency regarding carrying the ball, and traveling.

It seems that somewhere along the line, many people forgot that basketball is a game of skill, and part of the game involves the use of pivot foots and SKILLFULLY dribbling the ball to advance it. If these things were taken care of, kids would actually concentrate on developing their skills fully, instead of simply doing the skill half-***ed (edited myself there!) :-) You get the point.

Other than that, I think the game is fine. Don't even get me started on dunking!

Are there any rules incollegebasketball that could be changed to improve the game??nba fights ,nba teams

less timeouts and more intentional fouls called with under 2minutes remaining.
Yes,......All the players should be made to "come out" as gay sport loving cross-dressing Homos'.
ya i think they should allow puching and kicking along with sticks it would make it less boring
I would change the jump ball, tie up rule. I think the ball should go to the defender. For me there is nothing worse than seeing a kid work his butt off on defense tie up the ball from the guy on offense, but the offense keeps the ball. You see a lot more hustle for the ball incollegevs. the pros and it is a shame for a stupid possession arrow to decide things. Especially at the end of games. The consequence of changing this rule would be a lot more hustle in the players but also most likely more fouls. It is always tough for refs to make the call in these situations as it is and changing the rule would create more of these situations.

How hard would it be to walk-on to a D1 college basketball team?

I am a 5'11'' Senior in High School. I have contacted the coaches and they told me there will be walk-on tryouts in the fall. How difficult do you think it would be to make the team.

How hard would it be to walk-on to a D1collegebasketball team?college

How hard would it be to walk-on to a D1collegebasketball team?nba odds ,nba teams

It depends on how good you are. Duh. But really, if you are in high school, I really don't think you will make it, unless you are REALLY good.
Very Difficult, but just play your heart out. They might assign you to a pratice squad if you're any good. But just play your heart out. Good Luck.
first of all, to nate: WTH? for all you know he may be a stud in high school but flew under the radar or w/e. SO LAY OFF

To the poster: It would be diffucult, but it just comes down to how much you want it. Work your as* off beforecollegeand during the tryouts and youd have a fair shot. Good luck
its hard.. but if you want a chance to make it.. its not going to come down to your skill but your work ethic... and also if you dont make it.. you can always play ball for a smaller school
Walk-ons do make teams. If you look at full rosters, there often are guys who fill out rosters. So it's possible. Your height is obviously working against you, but most places will give you a chance.

The catch is probably playing time, even if you do make the roster. The scholarship players are the ones who will play. You hear stories once in a great while about someone who earned his way on to a roster and then into the lineup, but they are rare ... especially at the big schools. Is it worth it? That's a question for you to ask.

Hey Matt P,

It would probably have to be Kareem Abdul Jabbar (went by Lew Alcindor) as the time. i believe he won 3 championships in his 3 years and lost only 2 games during his career- he really changed the game at that level.

Nickster
Im with the man from LSU pistol Pete who was voted for the 2nd greatest season in all sports in second i would say Bill Walton
"pistol" pete maravich

44.2 pts per game during his career

leading ncaa scorer of all time

**we should note that when he played there was no 3 point line...it was calculated that he would've averaged around 57 points per game if there was a 3 point line

11 NCAA Record

34 SEC Records

LSU records in points scored, scoring average, field goals attepted and made, free throws attempted and made, and assists

3 time ncaa-all american

led ncaa in scoring 3 times

scored 50+ points 28 times(ncaa record)

championships didn't come, but championships is a team effort, not an individual one

he was virtually unstoppable, teams threw every defense in the books at him and he still put up 40+ points per game every year of his career

maybe oscar robertson because he's the onlycollegeplayer to ever average a triple double
Boy, Lewis Alcindor -- later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won three championships and lost a total of two games or so. They got rid of the dunk for a while because of him. I think you have to start there.
Back in the 50's a guy named Frank Selvy scored 100 points in a game. Look it up. But Pistol Pete was the best ever.
Honestly Larry Bird...i know im going out on a long limb here but he took Indiana St not Indiana to the Ncaa Finals....he was a 1 man show who did everything. In his days competition was very good as he had the rival with Magic Johnson...

(just trying to be different then the basic answers)
I would like to say Carmelo but I have to agree with Pete Maravich after I saw his stats. The guy's a legend.
tim duncan hands down. ive never seen anyone dominate the low post on offense and defense as well as the boards and stay all four years of college. and he played in the acc which at that time was the perrinial power conference.

dont take that countdown to heart you know they'll have christian laettner because of his one shot as well as micheal jordan even though he wasnt even thought of as the best pro prospect that year and picked first. wasnt it sam bowie? who the hell is sam bowie?
MJ
Carmelo Anthony
right now it's probalby Tyler Hansbrough.

Yes but there is somthing u must know and thats u must puy 110% into basketball now. Take Candice Parker she knew she wanted to play ball so she was always out there working always. You must be the first one to practice and the last one out. These 8th graders are born with talent but they worked. I dont know how good u r but u NEED to want it more then everyone else. You must eat driknk and sleep basketball. All these letters are not going to come over night. Dont feel bad if nothing comes till 11th or 12th grade but thats when the scouts kick it into gear. Work hard, show you will do anything to play, work with your coaches and they will help you. Good luck.
If you plan on working your tail off for the next 4 years.... then yea. I would suggest getting a trainer.

Or you could have a tape (disc) made of your high school playing time and send it to a college. This works with small Division II schools because they do not have the money to scout aggressively.

Is it just me or do the college basketball players?

(like the players we just saw play for Memphis and Kansas last night..) look so much more physically mature and skillful ball players than thecollegeplayers of just 10 to 15 years ago? Some of these guys on those two teams almost look like pros in the way they play. Has the skill level incollegebasketball really improved that much and if so...why?

Is it just me or do thecollegebasketball players?nba trade rumors

But, like the NBA, they don't play defense like they used to. Carolina was the best team in the tournament, but they played no defense, and that's why they lost. Kansas played exceptional defense.

Is it just me or do thecollegebasketball players?nba standings ,nba teams

I agree with you. They're more physically mature because they pumping up those muscles. They're more skillful ball players because they train harder. The competition is just great than before. They're competing with other American ball players and even against the world (international players) for a spot in the NBA.

How come college basketball fans don't do this?

In order to distract the visiting team, collegebasketball fans (Duke especially) normally make lots of noise when the visiting team has the ball. However, even more distracting is SILENCE, followed by a loud noise (just ask Tiger Woods). So, why not get real quiet and then YELL when they shoot the ball? Obviously this would require some planning, such as passing around flyers with instructions, but shouldn't be that hard to pull off.

How comecollegebasketball fans don't do this?nba ballers

Hard to pull off once fans get emotional... And what happens when all the idiot fans fall for every single boringly obvious pump fake. It would be a better idea to save that for the very end when the other team is trying to make the game winning shot when they aren't expecting it. Also, the fans would have to do it on their own or else it would be an NCAA Violation.

How comecollegebasketball fans don't do this?nba draft lottery ,nba teams

They dont do it to distract them, they do it so they have a hard time hearing what the coaches are saying, and when their teammates call out screens and such.
There's always gonna be some drunk idiot at the game who would ruin it anyway. Good idea though.
that would be a little wierd, they do it on some free throws tho
We do all the time in jr high and high school basketball games and it is really cool until the other team fans gain on what you're doing and they start doing when you shoot the ball. but it is just common sense but with like finals and big tounaments everybody in the stands now that are team does it. It is easy to pull off i hope this helps you out!!!!
I think it would be hard to pull of, coordinating thousands of fans like that. You could maybe get a lot of them to do it at first, but once the game gets underway, things can get emotional quickly for the fans and they get pumped up, making that sort of thing impossible to maintain for long.

Depends on how big the conference and the size of the arena as well as other factors. For example- in New Jersey Rutgers and Seton Hall charge about $20 for tickets, but at a Monmouth, FDU, or Rider, they may cost as little as $10. They also do not charge special prices for television- maybe for big rivarly games or against a high ranked opponent.
It's different all over the place like onecollegeyou had this ticket. When you went to another of that colleges sport event you got punched and when you got 2 you got a free game of basketball to watch
At Pitt you can get decent seats for around $20. And I dont think it matters if its televised or not.

Who is your favorite college basketball coach and why? Mine is Dennis Felton from Ga Dogs fame.?

Coach Dennis Felton is my favoritecollegebasketball coach, running a close 2nd are former WKU Coach Darrin Horn, and new coach at WKU Coach Ken McDonald. Coach Felton is a class act who really cares about the bbl players and their future. He has had to kick some great players off his team because they were in trouble with the law, didn't go to class, didn't show up at practice, was in jail, stole something, or wouldn't make their grades and meet his rules and regulations. He also "trained" Coach Horn and Coach McDonald since they are either former players or asst. coaches of his.

Go back and find your game, dust him off and get er done, man. All things are possible to those that believe. The question is, do you believe in you....?
go to a prep school or a Jr.college they will help you get back into shape and used to the game again. then you can get seen by colleges

Do you need to attend High school basketball to play incollegebasketball?2003 nba draft ,nba teams

It's helpful to participate on a high school team, but not entirely mandatory. Certain countries do not stress high school sports as much as they do in the US. Playing AAU basketball is very important because it weeds out the lesser players, so to speak.

Traveling teams involving AAU are more like high school all star teams in which you will find very good competition. College recruiters are very focused on AAU basketball. Reasons being are that there are tournaments where there are a lot of games in a few days, like a weekend.

I know several division 1collegebasketball players that did not play high school basketball yet they played CYO (in Canada) or AAU ball...and a LOT of it.
you can join thecollegeteam with no prior experience. you just have to be really good and know a lot about the game and be in top shape.
You can try out but you probably won't make it.
Division I and II colleges usually recruit their players but still have training camps where you are welcome to go try-out but they usually have their team pretty much made. Division III on the other hand takes many of their players from try-outs. I suggest playing if u have talent and try to get drafted as this will save u a lot of trouble.
You can walk on and try out for acollegeteam but it is really difficult to make the team. The college's scout high school players and know what they are getting and who is going to get the scholarship money.
no, u dont , there is a tryout for walkons
It's not necessarily but you might not get drafted without high school credentials.

Beasley is doing amazing. No doubt the best player. Other Freshmen are contributing too, such as OJ Mayo of USC, Kevin Love of UCLA, Derrick Rose of Memphis is the starting PG for the undefeated #1 ranked Tigers, Eric Gordon of Indiana, and many others. Tyler Hansbourough (sp?) is having a great year for the #3 ranked UNC Tar Heels, and DJ Augustin is putting together a solid year for the Longhorns without Kevin Durant. Roy Hibbert of Georgetown is also having his best year yet, and he's establishing himself of one of the NCAA's better big men. There's also this big guy Kenny George, I don't know what team he's on but he's like 7-7 360. Lol, he makes Shaq look small. He dosent have great stamina, but he is second in the leauge in blocks in only 20 mpg, he should be an interesting NBA prospect to watch, even though he may not get that far.

Is it possible for an NBA player to become a college basketball player?

Let's assume that somehow a player got into the NBA without ever playingcollegeball and not signing an agent either. He plays for a few years and decided he wants to play NCAA basketball for whatever reason. Are there any rules that would prevent this from happening?

I don't see why NBA players should be barred from playing on NCAA teams if they don't play in the NBA at the same time. Is there some kind of rule stipulating that if you play in the NBA, you can never be acollegeathlete?

Is it possible for an NBA player to become acollegebasketball player?nba power rankings

NCAA rules prohibit any professional athlete from competing in the NCAA. Therefore, by virtue of the fact that any player is an NBA player, they've been paid to play basketball, which bars them forever from playing on an NCAA team, even if they subsequently go to school.

So even if Lebron James decides to wise up and go to college, he can't play hoops for his school.

I'm pretty sure that a professional cannot play on acollegeteam. We would have colleges recruiting them just to win tournaments.
See above explanation, makes sense.

Interesting question. If you others like this at RootZoo.com, a community for sports fans, I bet you'll get some great responses from other sports fans. Set up a screenname and check it out, you'll like it.
Like the other people above me mentioned, it is against NCAA policy. NCAA sports are considered at the amatuer level. Leagues like the NBA are considered professional.
dennis rodman did that.....
NCAA rules require athletes to be "amateurs" in the sport in which they are competing. Signing a contract with any professional (or semi-professional) team in their sport makes them ineligible. So a player who competed for the NBA, the ABA, or a foreign league would not be allowed to compete in NCAA basketball. In some circumstances, they could compete in other sports (e.g. professional sprinters playingcollegefootball), but there is always a problem with endorsement deals, etc., from the professional sport.

Yeah.

Mostly, because Kansas doesn't have an NBA team...lol
Please don't make me laugh. The NBA are filled with the best players fromcollegeand around the world. These guys are pros and the worst NBA team will beat any NCAA championship team. NCAA is fun and games. The NBA gets ruthless....bring on the PLAYOFFS, GO Celtics!!
Its hard to beat March Madness. But the NBA does have star power. When you have Labron against Kobe in the championship game. Nothingcollegehas would bring a bigger draw.

I agree with you. I am not a pro-basketball fan at all. Just don't like the players. College players just seem to have more heart.
incollegeplayers play harder and with more heart and pride as they respresent their school instead of an organization(an NBA team). Incollegethere are faster paces, more team basketball, less one-on-one plays and louder crowds. Nothing other than the Super Bowl is better than March Madness

because the players incollegethat are stars only stay for one year and go to the nba, where they face players who are much better than they are. nba is where the greatest ball players want to gather in. its not only about individual skills, you see a lot more plays, defense is tighter, the game is faster, the players are bigger. its the ultimate basketball competition. i agree march madness is amazing, simply because anyone can win it all and its exciting to see upsets.

also i kinda like to know the names of the players i'm watching... unless you're an alum or something, most of thecollegegames don't mean diddly squat to you unless something or someone out of the ordinary is involved....

in the NBA you know most of the players, and like the 1st poster said, they're the best of the best, either skillwise, athletic-wise or potential/upside-wise.. of course you get you're olowokandis, darkos and kwame browns every now and again but most of these dudes at some point in their career was a big fish in a small pond somewhere....
i agree in the nba its about who has the biggest star incollegeit takes a team
The one thing I absolutely hate aboutcollegebasketball is the infinite number of timeouts during the games...You got television timeouts, along w/ the coaches timeouts, and add to that the constant blowing of the referee's whistles...All this has madecollegebasketball unwatchable...

He can drive on anybody, shoot from anywhere even with a hand in his face, can create his own shot whether it be in the offense or in an isolation, and he is a clutch scorer.

Is college basketball irrelevant until March Madness?

"The reason that there's no interest incollegebasketball during the regular season is that there really doesn't need to be. The good teams all make the tournament."

Do you agree with this assessment or not? Personally I believe this assessment is idiotic , and that a lot of interesting games happen during the regular season. This kind of ignorance is like saying the NFL , NBA , and NHL regular seasons are useless because it's the playoffs that count. Maybe it's just my strong bias towardscollegebasketball , my enjoyment of the multiple close games in this game , the parity , the rise of mid-majors , but I certainly do not think the regular season is worthless at all.

I'd consider the first month or two boring because teams are so sporadic, but right now I'm following the craziness of the Big 12 and enjoying the tumult.

Iscollegebasketball irrelevant until March Madness?nba salary ,nba teams

No. Because of the conference champion automatic bids, there are going to be some teams that are 16, 15, 14 seeds that don't belong. Let's face it, the worst team in the SEC or the Big East could beat these teams in most years. There's always going to be a few good teams that get left out because of those teams. Besides, if we didn't have the regular season, how would we know who to put in the tournament?
No,collegebasketball is not irrelevant before the tournament because you have to have a good record to get there. College basketball is exciting before march madness anyway. Just watch a couple of games. It's great.

GOOD RESEARCH APOCALYPSO~b!!! The state of Indiana did not deserve that one!
University of Evansville in IN
Oklahoma State University. It was an awesome crash that devistated many people. It went down upside-down and backward. No one even knew it was going down because of the gravitational force and inertia: what is in motion tends to stay in motion, things at rest tend to stay at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced outside force. Newtons 2 law of motion.
It's not oklahoma state, they had an airplane crash, but it was not in the 70's; it was in 2001, and it didn't kill all the players and staff it only killed 10 people total. 2 players and the rest were staff, media, and pilots.

What is wrong with college basketball today?

I know this is a week late, but I saw a clip of the Florida press conference where Corey Brewer stated that he was declaring for the NBA because "he has accomplished everything he can in college." How about an education and a degree?

Why does it seem that when it comes to basketball, players come to be athletes, and school is just something they 'have' to do? It happens in football, but not as much. Should the NBA raise the minimum age for players?

Look at Jay Williams. He left Duke after his sophomore year, almost died in a motorcycle accident, and had nothing to show fall back on. Now he spends his time trying to get back into the NBA.

Thoughts?.....................

What is wrong withcollegebasketball today?nba standings

You are right on target.

It used to be that you went to the university to get a degree and get a good corporate job. And while there, you also went out for sports. Sports was really a back-door way to meet the alumini who would offer you a non-sport job.

These days - you are shooting for a multi-year deal with the NBA that will make you a millionaire overnight. So you are in school just long enough for your name to be on the draft list.

Problem is - look at the numbers. In high school, maybe 1 out of 100 kids are on their high school teams. Then, of the ones who graduate, 1 in 100 qualify to go tocollegeand to play on acollegeteam. Considering all of the universities and colleges, maybe 1 out of 1,000collegeatheletes get drafted by the NBA. Of those selected, a small percentage make the NBA team. Of those making the NBA team, most are gone within 3-4 years. And then what do they do?

Many kids see the sport figures as heros - and something to shoot for. But they do not look at the odds of making it to that position. These inexperienced kids, listen to the high school andcollegecoaches who's job depend on having a winning team. These coaches want the kids to focus on practicing the game and will put pressure on those kids to take easy subjects and pressure on the teachers to "just pass them". Once the kid's eligibility is up - what does the coach care?

A lot of high-school andcollegehot-shots who just knew they would be drafted by the NBA are left setting there having used up their scholarship to pursue majors in "sports management" or "basket weaving". There was a big scandal a few years ago about the University of Oklahoma State (?) doing this. To settle the dispute (and get rid of the publicity) the University gave the kids an extra year or 2 of scholarship aid to complete their degrees.

Its sad - it seems like everyone wants to work at "winning the lottery" - becoming an instant "rich person" - thru the NBA, NFL, music, etc - but you seldom hear about the people who just want a good job, decent health %26amp; retirement benefits, and are willing to work for it.

What is wrong withcollegebasketball today?nba referee ,nba teams

There's nothing wrong with College Basketball. The question is - why does the NBA suck so bad, compared to ten years ago?
tru to the fullest i don't see how or let me put it like this, these days kids lives are revolving around basketball, say if you go to the nba, turn out to be the next mj, then you break your back, now you're trying to get a job but, no degree at all the nba should raise it up until you at least get a miniture degree in anything because you wanna know what jay williams is doing now? but don't talk cuz i live about 20 minutes away from where he was born but hes at a dayjob working for some team in *nj* after being waived by the autin toros because of another injury
Since the Bulls honored his signing contract (they didn't have to, but showed class by honoring it) he still pulled down big bucks. He still has the option to go tocollegeto complete his degree. What's wrong with that? I suppose you could say the same thing about Bill Gates - he leftcollegeafter his freshman year to start this little company (he and two friends) called Microsoft.

I agree with you that there are too many leavingcollegebefore they are ready for the pro game, but if you had the lure of millions of dollars and could get paid doing something that you are not only good at but really like to do... would YOU stay incollegeor go do the job and take the $$$? I know for a fact that I'd go for the $$$.
Its only hurtingcollegebasketball. The teams that are good this year won't be next year because their stars only came for one year and out. But it does help some players such as Kevin Durant because now hes a top 2 pick and if he would have came straight from high school he would have been a late first rounder. This may make the NBA better because pros get a better understanding of how the player plays so then we don't have any more Kwame Brown incedents. Overall its a ok thing it just depends on your perspective.
If you recall the NBA just raised the age limit this past year to 19 unless you have completed one year ofcollegebasketball. The only reason to play sports at the collegic level is to win a championship. If you've won one why wouldn't you go pro and get paid rather than risks injury next season? Now Jay Williams is a special case. He was just pain stupid riding a bike w/o a helmet, he was a 1st round pick so he had guaranteed money in his contract, and he's only trying to play now because he wants to not because he needs to. He actually was offered a NBA commentator job while he was rehabbing from his accident. But you're right you never know what is going to happen in your career or life for that matter... which is why these guys are going for the big bucks ASAP. Truthfully school isn't even something they "have to do". My sister had a math class at UNC with Raymond Felton and he was never there. John McCargo, former NC State DT, would show up for attendance purposes but would turn in tests and homework with just his name on them. Money talks, even the former Oklahoma QB went tocollegeand was doing well but got kicked off the team for accepting $35K more than he earned while working for a car dealership over the summer. When you're one of the greatest athletes in the country and the greedy pro owners are going to throw you a guaranteed $10M - $30M and you can earn up to 2X or 3X that if you play your entire 5 yr contract do you really need an education, or a good investment banker? And a lot of pros make more off endorsements and don't even spend need to spend their salary checks. And some of these kids came from the hood where the only way out was basketball and all they know is poverty and education was never really an option. If you're in an inner-city or country-*** school with no funding and imporper materials how are you gonna get educated? It's true, education is the key, but in sports it's a business.
ESPN has created an insatiable thirt of a monster.....go for a walk or take ur kids fishing.....basketball is irrelevant
I really think we should look at the NBA rather thancollegebaskeball. 15 -20 years ago, the NBA was basically king of pro sports. You had Kareem, Magic, Bird, McHale and a few years later the true emergence of MJ and Pippen. the past 5-10 years the NBA has lost so much fan support, and respect as a "major" sport as compared to MLB and the NFL. Even the NHL seems to have better ratings at times than does the NBA. The NBA encourages the younger kids to go to the draft ealier. (Yes the NFL does allow for undergraduates as well, but not the to the degree the NBA does.) College baskeball is still very exciting. The true winners incollegebasketball are the ones that may not quite make it in the first round of the NBA draft. These are the ones that tend to stay in school more often, get their degrees, etc. Even Shaq went back to finish his degree!! The kids who think they need the $$$ so bad that the NBA and agents encourage them to forgo a longer lasting investment (education) are the ones that are losing out. Sure they get the big contracts and lots of $$$, but money can run out if you're not careful and frugal with your riches. (college can teach these kids how to properly invest and save some of thier millions of dollars...think about that one!) the problem is not the colleges. the problem is the NBA in overpaying these high school kids to play basketball in their "high profile league" which is losing interest quickly. Also, time for D. Stern to step down and let some new blood run the league.

What does RBI stand for in College Basketball?nba draft lottery

RBI is from baseball. It means runs batted in.

You must mean RPI, which is a basketball team's Rating Percentage Index. It essentially tells you how tough their schedule is based on the difficulty level of their opponents.

The basic RPI formula is 1/4*(Winning Percentage) + 1/2*(Opponents' Average Winning Percentage) + 1/4*(Opponents' Opponents' Winning Percentage)

If your husband is kind and loving then he will greatly appreciate you asking him these questions. It gives him an opportunity to know about something and share it with you.

What does RBI stand for in College Basketball?nba lottery ,nba teams

You probably mean RPI or Rating Percentage Index. It is a method of rankingcollegebasketball teams that factors in the quality of a certain team's opponents.

Here's a website that can teach much more than I.

http://www.rpiratings.com/
i belive its re bounds ingame
there are no RBI's in basketball, that is in baseball.

RPI is the strength of the schedule of a particular team.if the RPI is a large number, the strength of the schedule wasn't very hard. if the RPI is low, then the schedule was hard.

Why are college basketball referees such a disgrace?

It seems like every game is pre-determined who is going to win. I just witnessed a massive hose job tonight during the Nebraska/Ole Miss game.

This past weekend, UCLA had no business beating Texas A%26amp;M. In fact, UCLA should not have beaten Cal earlier this year.

The Pac 10 referees are the biggest disgrace of them all. College basketball is turning into the NBA...they are deciding games. It's just sick.

I know they experimented with it in the preseason a few years ago and nothing came of it, but I was just curious what all of you would think of the idea of having NCAAcollegebasketball games go from two 20-minute halfs to four 10-minute quarters? Would it improve the game or hinder it? Would it make much of a difference?

Incollegebasketball, should they go to four quarters of ten minutes each?nba gear

The 20-minute halves givecollegebasketball way more spunk and if you were to give the NBA 20 - minute havles rather than quarters it would definetely increase viewers. College basketball is more fun to watch because it is continous. Its kind of like soccer in the rest of the world. Since the game doesnt have a lot of breaks there isnt much time for commerical and we dont have to channel surf sice there are few commericals. Now if there were 2 more intermissions there would be triple the commericals there are now. Now on the actual game's effects the games would probably be a more dramstic or closer score.During intermissions teams are able to adjust and try to find a plan. This would allow teams to stay close or make a bigger spread.Since it is continous its fun watching the players play and not the coaches because most of the play call and decisions go into the hands of the players and the coachs dont have the chance to make 3 million changes. The top players would also get more rest which may have a good or bad impact. If your main man is JJ Redickk hes going to adjsut his shooting and shoot more. Now when hes 0 of 20 for 3's its not that fun, but if JJ has to be taken out or has to try something different there might be more teamwork and thats what makescollegebasketball fun. The change may not seem big but if it occurscollegebasketball will be very different even though cutting halves doesnt sound big.

Incollegebasketball, should they go to four quarters of ten minutes each?nba finals 2007 ,nba teams

I thinkcollegebasketball should stay just like it is. I do not agree however that they don't have too many timeouts. They have four tv timeouts per half plus the timeouts that the teams get. Report It

I think they should stick to the 20 min. halfs. I like it the way they have it and if it was changed the time it takes for the game to finish would be longer. Some Tv shows would have to not be shown that night because of it.
i think they should , it would surely improve their games
Thosecollegekids can handle the 20 min quarters not just that i think its more about the tv networks then the NCAA...but who knows I'm crazy so I dont know anything!!!
four quarters make a dollar
They make enough money in sponsorship as it is, less breaks is better!

No. you should wait for them to contact you, but I'm pretty sure that they cant contact you until the beginning or end of sophomore year. You should go to camps or tournaments that are well known so coaches will be there and be looking for players.
You should not contactcollegecoaches... If you're good enough then there are scouts that will be watchin' you...
absolutely. it is very good that you understand that you really need to work on your skills to excel. not many people realize how much soccer can help you when it comes to basketball. it builds tremendous point guard skills (see steve nash) and really has you built up for basketball.

Try to attend a basketball camp or clinic where there will be many many coaches. just try to learn as much as you can.

Most importantly, keep your grades up because that makes getting athletic scholarships that much easier.
No u don't call thecollegecoaches. That makes no sense if u r gd they will b watching u. If u wantcollegecoaches 2 start 2 watch u then play AAU basketball that gets high exposure.

In your opinion who are the top 5 college basketball coaches of all time and what are your reasons?

In my opinion Coach K at Duke is Number One all time. What is your top five list of College basketball coaches and why do you pick these individuals?

In your opinion who are the top 5collegebasketball coaches of all time and what are your reasons?2003 nba draft

Coach K, Denny Crum, Dean Smith, Bob Knight, John Wooden.

Coach K would battle Crum for 4th. The other 3 are all superior in certain areas, and would be tough to single out one. Smith was a brilliant innovater. Knight was excellent in preparation. Wooden had an unbeleivable run his last 15 years. If they all had the same players I'm guessing Knight would lead them to the better record, especially if he had 4-5 days in between each game.
